Analyzing the most popular nail trends of this fall/winter season
Red Nail Theory
The infamous social-media term “red nail theory” came to be in the fall of 2022 and has defrosted once again this fall. Having an almond or oval shaped classic red nail is said to bring you all sorts of romantic attention as well as help achieve that classy and elegant autumnal look. Part of the appeal for classic red nails has to do with seeing our older female figures consistently going for red nails over other colors, and this is why people are more attracted to red nails as they are typically reminiscent of childhood. That comforting feeling associated with red nails ties in perfectly with fall and winter which is why they are especially prevalent during this time of the year.
Red nails are more often seen on oval or almond and slightly shorter nails than on a longer coffin or square tip nail. The shape of your red nails is what gives off an elegant and timeless look. Along with a classic cherry red, a warmer and more burgundy red is popular during the colder months. A dark red wine red nail color has been seen on many influencers and celebrities.
Chocolate Glazed Donut
The now classic “glazed donut” nails, popularized by Hailey Bieber, were seen on everyone’s hands over the course of the past year. Essentially, they are a simple white or nude base nail color with chrome applied on top to give off a pearlescent or “glazed” finish. For the autumnal season, a newer trend derived from the original one which is called “chocolate glazed donut” nails. Rather than using a white or nude color for a base, the alternative for the colder months is a brown polish. These nails have been such a hit as they are neutral enough to match with most outfits yet add an elegant and unique touch with the pearlescent finish.
The fascination with chrome finish nails came to be when Hailey Bieber debuted them at the 2022 Met Gala and inspired nail-lovers all around the world. Despite them requiring chrome, the finish they give off is more of a glossy one than an actual chrome finish which could be overwhelming. These chocolate brown shiny nails are perfect for those who prefer to remain neutral and simple when it comes to their nails yet want to add a fun touch for the upcoming holiday season.
Powder Pink
A timeless nail color that is guaranteed to consistently match with your outfits is going to be a simple powder baby pink. This specific shade of pink is just shy off of being considered white and works during every season. On social media, creators have been creating a blend of shades to create the perfect powder pink. A widely known combination by the Polish brand “OPI Nails” is by mixing the shades “funny bunny” and “bubble bath.” You layer two coats of funny bunny and top it off with a coat of bubble bath to create a milky baby pink.
As the nail color itself is natural and muted, any preferred length or shape can compliment the color. Although baby pink nails have always been in trend, not nearly enough Polish brands carry the exact shade nail-enthusiasts search for. So the concept of blending those two specific shades is a newer idea. The reason behind the craze over powder pink nails is because of the neutrality yet femininity of the shade. A plain white nail look can occasionally be opted for when going for natural nails, yet having a neutral shade with a hint of pink adds a more fun and feminine take to the classic look.
