D.C. Fashion Week was full of people who look marvelous. I knew that behind every outfit was a story, no matter how big or small. While walking around the colorful and extravagant DCFW networking party, I found some models, designers, and influencers who stood out to me. As I suspected, each outfit was carefully crafted and often an homage to others before them. Although not every person got to rock their outfits on the runway, they were each unique and fabulous.
Letiyo (right), a model, described her look as putting the “old into the new”. She modernized a vintage thrifted corset by adding a leather skirt and heels to it. The corset resembled a Victorian-era corset but was hopefully a little less tight.

Marcella Kiema (left), a model, said she wanted to wear “something sparkly and something that I felt my best in”. She expressed that winter fashion leaves less room to feel good because of all the layers you need.

Sydnee, the outreach coordinator for Revolution, wore an outfit inspired by the “70s resurgence in the 2000s'” she said. She said she loves this era since it is a combination of both eras’ styles. It brings flared pants and vests to the 2000s.

Chris Deloatch (left), a model and influencer, was inspired by Lenny Kravitz. He wanted a cool, rocker vibe that's “not trying too hard”. He said his outfit is “effortlessly cool and chic”.

Style Channel (right), a celebrity makeup artist and influencer said, “I am fashion”. There is no method, he just looks in his closet for inspiration. In other words, he is inspired by himself. He says whatever he’s wearing “I'm going to own it”.

Rita D Lewis (left), an actress and voiceover actress, works for the office of cable television and entertainment under Mayor Muriel Bowser. Her outfit, styled by Woo, had touches of lace, chain, and an eclectic vibe.

Woo Johnson (right) a stylist said she dug “into some late 80s early 90s fashion” for their outfits. She was inspired by Lisa Bonet. She described her look as “a little goth babe but not really”.

Oluwa Shayie (The Stuttering Diva), a crochet artist, said her inspiration for her outfit was mental health. She said she made the outfit based on “the emotions [she] was feeling at the time” and that she “found color in those emotions and made my outfit as such”.
